Fugato SW

Fugato SW

Fugato SW is an Oldenburg dressage stallion born in May 2013. Fugato was bred and raised in Oldenburg, Germany. He was purchased in April 2016 by Sheena and Dermot Ross of Sterling Warmbloods Ltd. Fugato SW is a very dark bay and stands at 16.1hh at the moment, but is likely mature at 16.2 hh or above.

Sheena and Dermot had been looking for a while for a quality dressage stallion to bring to New Zealand. Fugato SW was purchased at the spring under-saddle licensing auction at the Oldenburg Verband.

They were particularly looking for something with an international quality pedigree that would complement the bloodlines we already have in NZ.  They wanted a horse with a nice temperament and 3 really good paces. Fugato SW ticked all their boxes, and after having him looked at by an independent expert, it was decided he was too gorgeous to resist.

Successfully Passed Under Saddle Licensing in Germany

Fugato SW passed the under-saddle licencing prior to Auction Day, which included being ridden by two test riders and also free jumping. The auction bidding was successful and he was purchased by Sterling Warmbloods Ltd. to be exported from Germany to NZ.

Fugato SW - the NZ Chapter

Fugato arrived in NZ in May and has been under saddle in light work since he arrived. Sheena has been riding him herself for the last 6 weeks and is loving every minute of it. He has already proven to be very sensible and mannerly around the stables and also in the paddock. He goes out each day and is easy to do everything with. He is not a spooky horse and is a very sensitive and forward ride. He is a horse that likes to please his rider and Sheena has high hopes for his competition career. She is planning to start competing him in the 2017/18 season when he will be four years old.

Fugato SW was successfully approved into the New Zealand Warmblood Studbook and is a licensed NZWB Stallion.

The Sire Line - producers of Elasticity and Movement

Fugato SW has a fabulous pedigree. His father, Foundation, is a very famous sire at PSI International. Foundation is by the famous F line stallion Fidertanz and out of a D line mare by De Vito (from the celebrated De Niro and Donnerhall line).

Many Foundation sons and daughters are shining in the competition arena in Germany. What really marks them is their extraordinary elastic movement. Foundation is known to be a movement producer, and anyone who has viewed the videos of Fugato can see he has inherited the amazing movement of his father.

The Dam -  by the Sire of Furstenball

Fugato’s dam is a state premium Oldenburg mare and is by the multiple world champion Furst Heinrich.  Horses by this sire are very much in demand -- he died young at age 7, but not before producing a remarkable number of state premium mares and licensed sons including the hugely famous Furstenball.

Furst Heinrich is out of a Donnerhall mare. Fugato’s Dam Sire is the super sire Rohdiamant, who in turn is by Rubenstein and out of a mare by the renowned Anglo Arab stallion Inschallah, a horse who in his day was an important lightening influence in several German stud books.

A World Class Pedigree Blended for Temperament and Athleticism

Such a strong F line pedigree, which brings a lot of movement and is also associated with good temperament, was just too good to ignore.  The R line of Fugato’s Dam is also renowned as producing horses with good temperaments, and having Donnerhall in the background on both sides of the pedigree brings the promise of great athleticism for the upper levels of dressage.  Breeders should be confident that they are breeding from a horse with world class bloodlines.
