Vollrath Lessing’s sire Londonderry, was the clear winner of the riding horse performance test during the German Riding Championships in Verden and only a short time later he obtained highest results at the Federal Championships of German Riding Horses in Warendorf as well.
In 2000 and 2001 he was placed at the Federal German Dressage Championship. He has meanwhile had successes up to the advanced (S) class.
In 2005, Londonderry received a Breeding Value Index of 157 points, with an assurance of 95% heritability, from the German Equestrian Federation.
He went on to produce a number of Licensed sons of which Locksley II (Londonderry/Weltmeyer) was the German Federal Champion at Warendorf of the 4 year old division and Londontime (Londonderry/Walt Disney) set a new record for highest sales price at the Verden Elite Auction selling for €510,000.
Prince Thatch xx and Lauries Crusador xx are considered to be the two top TB breeding stallions in Germany and were acquired by the State stud for the purpose of refining the breed.
Champion of Champions
At New Zealand's Horse of the Year 2008 Lessing won the class for "Stallion for Breeding Performance Bred Horses", and was also crowned Reserve Champion 4yo and over Performance Bred Led Sport Horse.
As a five year old, at the NZ Dressage Championships, Lessing was awarded the title of National Champion of Champions Young Dressage Horse for 2008.
The visiting Judges were from Australia (Maria Schwennesen) and Canada’s FEI international “O” Judge Cara Whitham.
During Ricky's test ride Cara Whitham used the following keywords about Lessing:
- beautifully naturally balanced
- horse of a quality to go to the World Breeding Championship
- like a metronome in his rhythm and balance with incredible work ethics
- a true quality horse
- and that we should ‘padlock his stall’ tonight!
The judges then named the overall winner of the three age groups 4, 5, & 6 yr old = Vollrath Lessing with an overall score of 83.75 % a huge 10% higher then the second place getter!
Ricky MacMillan scored his
walk = 8.3
trot = 8
canter = 8
rideability/willingness to work = 9.2 (she wanted to give more but she said to be too 'timid' to do so)
Rising through the Grades
Lessing was winner of the Level 5 musical freestyle at the 2012 North Island Dressage Championships
